February 2026
As I write this, it is still the middle of February.
But that is because, as it is posted, I will be just returning from almost 2 weeks in the sunshine!
Yes, it’s crazy, but somehow I’ve managed to sneak away for the second half of February, and that is absolutely GLORIOUS.
It also makes for a crazy first half of February, because all of a sudden, my to-do list is filled with ALL the things, and when I get back and it is March 1, I will be absolutely be feeling the pressure of time.
Now, yes, I have all the time I need to get done the things I need to get done.
But it doesn’t always FEEL that way. And when March hits, I REALLY feel the pressure.
But right now, February.
I've still been working my way through my flower farmer conference, and doing it slowly has been very helpful, as I can digest more of it, and take some actual steps, some of which include:
-Making my seed starting schedule - laying out what I’m growing and how to get those things growing is essential. And I have it mapped out from now and through the whole season, so that when each week comes, I know exactly which seeds need to get started.
-Speaking of seed starting, I am starting some seeds! There are some flowers that, believe it or not, want to be planted out earlier in the spring, when it is still cooler. They are called cool hardy annuals. I have not been super successful in growing those flowers, but this year, I am starting to try to figure them out! But, that means seeds get started in February!
-Marketing - I’m working on making a marketing calendar, just to have a clearer focus of what I’m working on and when.
I am also already starting to work on marketing for our Tulip UPick, because by the time I return in March, I will need printed materials ready to go and start handing out! Crazy!
-Tulip U-Pick - I’m working on more of those details for the whole u-pick as well as for our Vendor Market! Remembering last year has me so excited to plan for this year!! I can’t wait for Tulip Time! It’s crazy but SO much fun!
-Website refreshing - I’ve been making sure to spend some time updating the website, taking off old things and adding new items. Something that should be done more often than I do, but this is the time I have to do it!
Once the flower season really starts, time spent at the desk or on my computer gets so limited, so I have to take advantage of the time now to get all of these BTS details taken care of! This work is definitely harder for me - marketing and websites are not my favorite things (they don’t come naturally to me). But it is an important part of having a business, so here I go, figuring it out! :)
In other February things, we snuck out to hike the dunes and see the frozen lake. It always amazes me in the winter!
(also peep that hat made from our alpaca fiber)
But then the next weekend it was 45* and sunny and we were all outside without our coats on, living like it was 65* and spring!
(I secretly love false spring in February - it’s always life-giving)
